Kids Love to Cook! By Toni Richardson
Individual Ham Loaves with Gingersnap Sauce
(Some parental participation required)
When you buy your ham have the butcher cut off part and grind it up for you. This will make four loaves. I use my grandmother’s old fashion metal meat grinder. It however, is a lot of work.
You will need:
2 ••• cups ground cooked ham
1/3 cup cracker crumbs
1 egg
1 teaspoon yellow mustard
••• cup diced onion
••• cup milk
Dash of pepper
••• teaspoon dried thyme
Wash your hands well and read all the directions.
1.Ask and adult to help you pre-heat the oven to 350°
2. Butter a shallow pan.
3. In a large bowl measure all the ingredients.
4. Mix thoroughly with your clean hands.
5. Shape into 4 loaves and place in buttered pan.
6. Bake for 20 minutes. Spoon ginger snap sauce over top and serve.
Gingersnap Sauce
You will need:
2 gingersnaps
••• lemon
2 tablespoons raisins
••• cup brown sugar, firmly packed
••• cup hot water
2 tablespoons vinegar
1. Crush the gingersnaps in a plastic bag.
2. Ask an adult to cut the lemon into thin slices.
3. In a saucepan combine all the ingredients.
4. With an adult heat to boiling and simmer 15 minutes or until the lemon slices are transparent. Stir frequently.
Spoon sauce over the ham loaves.
