When NOT to Dial 911

Gainesville, FL – For those planning on dialing 911 to report a robbery at your house, here is a list of items to review BEFORE making the call to the law enforcers: 1) Should I call right away or wait 45 minutes to report the robbery? 2) Are the items that were stolen illegal? 3) Am I currently smoking marijuana? 4) Am I likely to forget my own address? A 22-year-old man ignored this list last week…but, when you’re committing a crime and you’re also the victim of a crime, it makes it difficult to call police. Powell told the 911 dispatcher that two men had robbed him at gunpoint. He also had no idea where he lived. Police eventually found his house by driving around his Green Leaf neighborhood. Investigators said when officers arrived Powell said the robbers had made off with $800 and his “personal stash” . He let the responding deputies know that he was sitting on the couch drinking a beer, watching a movie and smoking a blunt when the robbery took place. Police said that this wasn’t the first time the young man was arrested on drug charges.

 Worst Park Job Ever

Toronto, Canada – Most people who pull into a parking spot may accidentally tap or bump the car parked in front of them…but it’s rare for someone to drive up on top of the car. However, a 62-year-old Toronto woman must have thought she was in a monster truck show instead of a gym parking lot when she pulled her black BMW SUV into a parking lot too quickly, mounted a small curb and rolled over two parked cars. The incident was captured by security cameras installed in the parking lot of Extreme Fitness. The footage shows the driver back off of the cars, pause and then drive out of the lot. This incredible hit-and-run incident quickly became a YouTube sensation, and within a week the clip generated more than 880,000 hits! Since the video didn’t capture her face or the car’s license plate number, it appeared that she had got away.  But amazingly, the next day the lady returned and parked in the parking lot to go the gym. Employees recognized the car from the surveillance video and called police. She has been charged with failing to remain at the scene of an accident.

Don’t Fight the Light

Perth, Scotland – When one is drunk, they often don’t pick fights with someone their own size…or pick fights with people for that matter. A drunken Scotsman began challenging a powerful 10-foot metal lamppost to fight after he was ignored by passers-by in the street. The drunken 22-year-old turned on the innocent streetlight after a number of walkers ignored his pleas to engage him in a stand-up fight. As police officers watched, the young man directed his anger at the lamppost and shouted at it to “come and have a go.” Police were on patrol in the early hours of the morning when they spotted the man shouting and swearing at passers-by. It was clear to the officers as they got closer that the man was heavily under the influence of alcohol. “He must have been very drunk because when he ran out of passers-by he began to shout at the lampposts, similarly challenging them to fight. There is no telling who would have won the fight, because the stumbling drunk was arrested and detained before the fight began.
