Good Books, Great Cause by BJ Sibley

Fall is here and time to curl up by the fire with a good book.

You can find that book at Twain Harte Rotary’s Author Signed Book Auction on October 10th at the Twain Harte Golf Club.

For the third year, Rotary will present a variety of books for sale to benefit the scholarships Rotary presents to Summerville High students at graduation.

This year local authors will be the guest speakers and will talk about their books and why they wrote them.

Jeanne Crawford of Mi Wuk will present her new book, “The Kindness of Strangers”. It is the story of her life and how she always focuses “forward”.

“I tell of my abusers by inference,” she says. “Ultimately this is a story of resilience and of the processes I use to stay focused forward.”

Jim Mori of Crystal Falls is the author of two books, “Into the Heart of the Sea” and “Beyond the Outer Limits.”

“Into the Heart of the Sea” is a true story, which Mori wrote to honor his father, Amador Mori. In 1939, Amador went to Canada to join the Air Force and toward the end of World War II, found himself on an island in the Pacific where he and his men were outnumbered by Japanese forces.

“Beyond the Outer Limits” is a novel about two families, people with choices to make regarding whether they should ‘stay in place’ or head to the ‘outer limits’.

Local authors will also have their books for sale.

The Author Signed Book Auction will include both silent and voice auctions. Silent auction items include: “Twenty Wishes” by Debbie McComber; “McKettrick’s Luck” by Linda Lael Miller; “A Good Death” by Dianna Ingram; “American Diva” by Julia London and many more selections.

Voice auction items include: “The Doomsday Key” by James Rollins; “Wildfire” by Nelson DeMille; “Coastliners” by Joanne Harris (the author of Chocolat); “Fugitive” by Philip Margolin; and “Fly Fishing The Sierra Nevada” by Bill Sunderland. For those who enjoy cooking there will be “Back to Basics” by Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa and “A Twist of the Wrist” by LaBrea Bakery founder Nancy Silverton.

All books have been donated and autographed by the authors.

The Author Signed Book Auction will be held from 2 pm to 4 pm on October 10th at the Twain Harte Golf Club. Food for the event is provided by “The Rock” in Twain Harte. Tickets are $15 each or two for $25. They can be purchased at The Sportsman Coffee Shop or the Family Barber Shop on Joaquin Gulley in Twain Harte; by calling 586-5122; or purchased at the door.
