Friday, March 13, 7 p.m., Stage 3 – Blues Box Bayou Band – The Blues Box Bayou Band, Sonora’s own rockin’ mix of Cajun, Zydeco and American Roots music will launch the Stage 3 2009 Music Series. Saturday, March 14, 4 to 7 p.m., Jamestown Sherriff’s Posse – Suicide Awareness Benefit Dinner and Raffle – Sonora High Senior Sara Mitchell is helping raise suicide awareness in the community by hosting a benefit dinner and raffle at the Jamestown Sherriff’s Posse at 19130 Rawhide Road in Jamestown. Pre-ordered tickets will be $10 a person and $25 for a family of four. Tickets at the door will be $15 per person and $30 for a family of four. Suicide awareness T-shirts are being sold for $10 and bracelets for $3. All proceeds will go to the Josh Ditler Foundation of Hope. Saturday, March 14, 5 p.m., Sonora Elks Lodge – TuCARE’s Annual Dinner and Auction – TuCARE Celebrates 20 years with a tri-tip and chicken dinner. Following dinner a live auction will take place. It will be an event to honor great men and women, and to look back at some incredible and memorable moments in Tuolumne County. This is TuCARE’s main fundraiser of the year. Tuesday, March 17, 6:30 to 8 p.m., Unity Church – Writer’s Support Group – Unity Church in the Mother Lode at 16997 Wagon Wheel Rd (just off 108 and Soulsbyville Road) in Sonora is offering a Writer’s Support Group starting March 17th and continuing on the 3rd Tuesday of each month. Wednesday, March 18, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Telele Lodge (Old Black Oak School Campus) – Family Bingo Night – FFEE Kids Reach and BOTH parents group are having a Family Bingo Night and all proceeds will go to help the kids at Twain Harte-Long Barn School District. Refreshments will be available to purchase and a St. Patrick Day theme prize for best costume and hat.

Thursday, March 19, 6 p.m., Sonora Hills Clubhouse – AAUW Meeting – The Sonora Branch of the American Association of University Women will gather for the Guest Night Talent/Variety show at the Sonora Hills Clubhouse. Sonora’s own Phyllis Diller (aka Laurel Leslie) will be the M.C. for the evening. Sonora AAUW is open to women with an Associate or Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college. Friday, March 20, 5 to 7:30 p.m., High Country Sports Arena – Youth Skate Night – Friday Night Live and the Tuolumne County Recreation Department presents a skate night for K-8th graders at the Sports Arena at 14934 Camage Road in Sonora. Cost is $5 for children, includes entry fee and skates ($4 if they have their own skates). Skating parents pay $1 if they come with a child. Non-skating parents are free. Saturday, March 21 and Saturday, March 28, 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Twain Harte – Free Youth Musical Workshop – Meyer Hideout, Inc. Youth Musical Theatre Group is holding a free workshop on March 21 and 28 at the upper Black Oak School Campus, Telele Lodge, in Twain Harte. It will involve various theatre and music activities for ages 8-17. From June 29 to August 7 they run a musical theatre summer camp at Telele Lodge from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday for ages 8-17. The cost is $400. Activities include music, theatre, dance, and swimming and field trips. On July 30, 31 and August 1 they will be performing “Seussical Jr.” at 8 p.m. at Summerville High. This is their 6th summer season in Twain Harte.
Saturday, March 21, noon to 5 p.m., Wrights Tire in Sonora – Fundraiser Car Wash – Twain Harte 8th grade students will have a car wash fundraiser for their graduation trip and dance. Saturday, March 21, 6 p.m., Sonora Opera Hall – Chinese Dinner and Auction – An annual fundraising event to benefit the WATCH program will include a Chinese buffet catered by the China House Restaurant in Twain Harte. The main event of the evening will be an “Auction” with 25 prizes. Ticket price includes the 25 Chinese coins that you’ll need to play the game. There will also be a silent auction. Join them in the fun and dress to win the optional costume contest. All proceeds benefit people with developmental disabilities living in the community. Sunday, March 22, 1 to 4 p.m., Sonora Senior Center – Meals on Wheels Fundraiser – The Country Classics Band will be donating their time to play country, Latin, ballroom and swing music for dancing and listening pleasure the third Sunday of every month from 1 to 4 p.m. in Sonora’s Senior Center. Sunday, March 22, 10:30 a.m., Sonora Elks Lodge – Spay/Neuter Fundraiser – Tickets are selling quickly for the Humane Society of Tuolumne County’s Bone Appétit Spring Champagne Brunch fundraiser, benefiting their Spay/Neuter Voucher Program. The event’s highlights include: a high scale menu, a boutique and vendor area for a wide variety of shopping and services, and live entertainment with vocalist Kerry Tweedy and pianist Krista White. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the Humane Society’s Thrift Store in East Sonora (533-2963), their shelter in Jamestown (984-5489), or you can print the PDF file from their website at www.hsotc.org. Sunday, March 22, 2 to 3:30 p.m., Murphys – Calaveras County Great Discussion Series – The Calaveras County Great Decisions discussion series will take place at the First Congregational Church at 509 N. Algiers St. in Murphys. Dr. Fred Moody, consulting engineer and professor with expertise in Thermal-Hydraulics and Nuclear Energy, will lead this discussion. “Great Decisions “is a nation wide discussion series sponsored by the nonpartisan Foreign Policy Association and facilitated in Calaveras County by the American Association of University Women. Monday, March 23, 7p.m., Stage 3 Theatre – Storytelling Concert – The Mother Lode Reading Council and Delta Kappa Gamma present the 7th annual “For Adult Ears Only” Evening Storytelling Concert with The Story Quilters at Stage 3 Theatre at 208 South Green Street in downtown Sonora. This event is a fundraiser for community literacy projects. Tickets will be available at the Mountain Bookshop, from Mother Lode Reading Council and Delta Kappa Gamma members, or at the door. The $15 price includes an elegant dessert served by Delta Kappa Gamma members. Tuesday, March 24, 6 p.m., Twain Harte Golf Course Clubhouse – Soroptimist Award Banquet – Soroptimist International of Twain Harte will be honoring the recipients of their three annual awards at the Twain Harte Golf Course Clubhouse. The Violet Richardson Award recognizes young women for their volunteer action, and this year’s winner is Gina Rutter, a student at Summerville High School. The Women’s Opportunity Award gives women the resources they need to improve their education, skills and employment prospects and Laura Davis of Tuolumne and a student at Columbia College is this year’s award recipient. The Making a Difference for Women Award honors women who, through their professional or personal efforts, are making extraordinary differences in the lives of women or girls, and this year’s recipient is Jo Ann Rios, of Sonora Regional Medical Center, for her work with women’s heart health. A donation will made to the charity of Jo Ann’s choice. The awards do not stop at the local level and these women will all be eligible for regional and higher awards. Get in the Game: The Tuolumne County Library offers adults the “Get in the Game” activity at all five libraries every week for two hours. Board games, puzzles, and other activities are offered, with the Wii game featured at one of the libraries each week. Twain Harte Branch Library offers it each Thursday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. MiWuk Branch Library offers it each Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuolumne City Branch Library offers it each Friday from noon to 2 p.m. Sonora Library offers it each Friday at 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Groveland Branch offers it on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays in the Community Room at the library from 2 to 4 p.m. The Wii games will be at the Tuolumne Branch on Friday, March 13.
