Another popular week at www.sierramountaintimes.com. Here is what readers had to say:
“I just bought a copy of this book and must say how happy I am to have this. I grew up in Blairsden, California and was very familiar with these locations. My father who was an Engineer for 47 years just retired last year. As a kid I would ride the work trains to go fishing and of course we would meet dad in Oroville as he ran up and down the canyon as well as the HI-line to Beiber. Now at 43, I am trying desperately to model the WP Feather River route and have had finding maps and pictures of track segments and photos from Oroville to Portola. In any case thank you so much for this book. I would also agree this is an excellent source of the history of the WP. May she live forever…” – Scott, in response to Thomas Atkins’ October 3rd article about Steve Hayes’ book on the Western Pacific.
“One thing that would really help our economy is to get rid of NAFTA (the North American Free Trade Agreement.) I am originally from Michigan, and NAFTA closed down SO MANY companies back there it is ridiculous! This is also what happened to Hershey’s in Oakdale. The companies that are moving out of the U.S. are looking at it like this “why should we give employees here $15 an hour plus benefits when we can move to Mexico or further south and pay Employees 75 cents an hour!” And what the government should do to the companies that did move out of the country is to put such a tariff on these products that it would be cheaper for them to move back to the U.S. I am a big believer in “BUY AMERICAN!” – Dan Forrester, in response to Greg Kristapovich’s October 31st Man on the street question about the presidents #1 priority.
“What a great time of the year. I love November. The leaves have stopped falling; the chill in the air is enough to make naturally rosy cheeks just a bit rosier. Personally, I always get a touch of melancholy this time of year. Once the holidays have passed, I know we are in for the long siege of winter.” – Remember November, in response to Jerome Peterson’s October 31st article about the month of November.
There were plenty more, so stay tuned next week!
