“Tuolumne County is a wonderful area for artists. The variety of landscape choices are endless!” exclaims Diana Eppler of Jamestown, as she embellishes her oil painting depicting crepe myrtle and lavender.

In a prelude to the 2nd Annual Foothill Farms Art Festival (September 6-13), a special Tuolumne County Ranch and Farm Tour Day was held recently at Rancho Torales Olive and Lavender Farm. Overlooking the Tuolumne River Canyon, the farm’s beautiful surroundings are reminiscent of Tuscany and southern France. Farmers Joy and Sandy Severin hosted the event on their 40-acre spread and attracted many plein air (in the open air) painters, photographers and art lovers! Additional works of art, including those by Joy Severin, may be viewed at the Central Sierra Arts Council and Post Gallery at 48 S. Washington St. in downtown Sonora.
Lavender, in pastels, blossoms as Barbara Beaudreau of Jamestown adds more color to her canvas.
I’m trying to capture the morning light with the shadows,” explains Vera Knowles of Brentwood. This oil painting and some of her others may be viewed at the Brentwood Art Gallery.
